    “Child marriages cause irreversible damages”

    A Child Marriage Awareness Panel, an event as part of a series of panels intended for women refugees, was held on the 28th of September, 2017 in Mersin. The panel content concept of which was developed by theUnited Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) was organized in cooperation with UNFPA in Turkey’s implementing partner the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (SGDD-ASAM). The series of panels aims at raising awareness of and draw attention to child marriages, a serious human rights violation against children, also a significant problem among refugee families in Turkey. In the panel, participants held presentations with the themes Physical, Psychological and Social Dimensions of Child Marriages, Legal Status and Obligations in Early Age Marriages in Turkey and Child Marriages from the Islamic Perspective.

    Bicycle enthusiast refugees in Diyarbakır explored the city and made new friends

    UNFPA’s Youth Center in Diyarbakır which is managed and run by Community Volunteers Foundation and financed by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration organized a “we ride our bicycles together” with Tigris bicycle and special athletes club event in Diyarbakır on September 27th, 2017. Approximately 60 young refugee women and men participated in the event in which the refugees paired up with local riders and pedalled around the city for about 2 hours. The aim of the event was to facilitate integration of the refugees into the Diyarbakır community by improving their relations with the locals and make them aware of their surroundings so that they can move around the city comfortably.

    Child Marriage Awareness Panel, a panel intended for women refugees, was held on the 27th of September, 2017 in Adana. The panel was developed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) which was organized in cooperation with the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (SGDD-ASAM), the implementing partner of UNFPA in Turkey. The panel the content concept of which was developed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) was organized in cooperation with the KAMER Foudnation, the implementing partner of UNFPA in Turkey. The panel has aimed to raise awareness of and draw attention to child marriages, a serious human rights violation against children, also a significant problem among refugee families that seek help in Turkey. In the panel, participants held presentations with the themes Physical, Psychological and Social Dimensions of Child Marriages, Legal Status and Obligations in Early Age Marriages in Turkey and Child Marriages from the Islamic Perspective.

    "Child marriages are human rights violations"

    Child Marriage Awareness Panel for refugee men in Ankara, whose content is developed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and organized with UNFPA’s implementing partners, Hacettepe University Women's Research and Implementation Center (HUKSAM)Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG) and the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (SGDD-ASAM). The panel first was held in Mardin twice, and then in Konya and Izmir, then it was held in the Culture and Congress Center of Ankara Ulucanlar Semi-Open Prison on 24 September 2017 for the fifth time. In the panels, the experts made presentations on Physical, Psychological and Social Dimensions of Child MarriagesLegal Status and Obligations in Early Age Marriages in Turkey and Child Marriages from the Islamic Perspective. More than 250 refugee men were attended in the panel held in Ankara, which was financially supported by the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) and the U.S. State Department, Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.
