    Women Tracing the Light of Hope

    28 November 2017, Ankara - 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women has been observed in an event titled “Women Tracing the Light of Hope” to raise awareness for the violence against women. The event, which has been organized in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and with the financial support of the Office of European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aids Operations (ECHO) within a protocol signed with Hacettepe University’s Women’s Research and Implementation Centre (HUWRIC) and Directorate of Public Health of Ankara. The conference was organized within the 16 Days of Activism to end Gender-based violence campaign.

    14 November 2017, Istanbul – United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the implementing partner Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (SGDD-ASAM), organized a panel titled ad “Child Marriages Awareness Raising Panel” which is funded by European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) in İstanbul. More than 300 women and girls refugees attended the panel.   

    The series of panels has the aim of raising awareness and drawing attention to child marriages, a serious human rights violation against children, also a practice widely spread as a significant problem among refugee families in Turkey. In the panel, experts made presentations on Physical, Psychological and Social Dimensions of Child MarriagesLegal Status and Obligations in Early Age Marriages in Turkey and Child Marriages from Islamic Perspective.

    19 October 2017, Diyarbakır - An awareness raising panel in the series of “Child Marriages Awareness Panels” targeting this time male refugees was held on October 19, 2017 in Diyarbakır. The panel’s concept was developed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and was organized in cooperation with theCommunity Volunteers Foundation and KAMER Foundaiton the implementing partners of UNFPA Turkey. These series of panels aim to raise awareness and draw attention to child marriages, a serious human rights violation against children, also a widespread phenomenon and a significant problem among refugee families that seek assistance in Turkey. In the panel, participants held presentations with the themes Physical, Psychological and Social Dimensions of Childhood MarriagesLegal Status and Obligations in Early Age Marriages in Turkey? and Child Marriages from the Islamic Perspective.

    Overhead kick for healthy tomorrows

    United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Turkey office’s Youth Center in Diyarbakır, which is run by UNFPA's impelenting partner Community Volunteers Foundation, organized a sports activity event branded as “Overhead kick for healthy tomorrows” on 18 October 2017. The main aim of this event is to enable social inclusion of the Syrian refugees into the local community they are all now part of. With this friendship match, the organizers hope to accomplish three goals: To have Syrian young men to take part in healthy activities; to open new ways for communication and interactions with the locals; to show that these sports activities can be considered more than just a hobby.
